Sakin Bahçe

sittingroom

We know that the original building is at least 100 years old and possibly a lot more. It is unusual to find a village house which is so large, and villagers tell us that this has always been a special building, possibly the Governors house in times gone by.

Sakin Bahçe was renovated using the best materials and tradespeople available locally. Our aim was to maintain the character and integrity of the original building whilst providing some of the comforts of modern living. property so the standards are high.

We restored the floors, ceilings, roof joists, windows and doors using cedar wood - you may be able to smell it as you enter the house. The original walls were maintained or re-built, and are half a metre wide. This enables the house to be cooler in summer and warmer in winter.

master bedroom

All the wooden furniture and fitted cupboards were made in Fethiye by hand, using a range of woods including cedar, chestnut, reclaimed oak, iroko and teak.

The old door above the stairs in the sitting room was part of the original building. The other old doors and lintel are over 200 years old and were rescued from wooden houses being knocked down on the Black Sea Coast.

In sourcing locally we were able to minimise the impact on the local environment and provide employment. We were keen to give a little back to a region that has provided so many happy memories for us.

view from ground floor terrace

The garden was professionally landscaped and is on two levels; the area closest to the house has some shade provided by an Almond and a Mulberry tree. The area at the bottom of the garden has flower beds, a stone area for sun loungers and a lawn. There are Pomegranate, Caesalpinia, Mimosa and Grevillea trees, roses, oleander, honeysuckle and a variety of other shrubs and flowers.

Parking

We own the area of land immediately outside the main entrance gates providing ample parking space. There is a Mulberry tree one side, and a Pomegranate tree on the other side of the gate.

The small allotment at the side of our garden is tended by our neighbour, Semahat who also looks after our garden.

Staff

Towels are changed mid week and bed linen twice weekly. Figen our cleaner will do this. She will also do a light clean mid week and a more thorough clean of the house weekly.

Semahat will switch on the pool pumps, irrigate the garden, take the rubbish away and generally ensure the outside areas are well maintained.

The pool is maintained by Çetiner.
